What are Hormones and Why Do They Decrease?
Hormones are nothing more than messenger molecules. They transmit a message from one part of the body to the cells of another, stimulating those cells to act in a specific way. Our body begins to produce less hormones starting around the age of 30 and it is estimated that testosterone levels decrease by 1-2% per year.
Lifestyle factors can also reduce testosterone levels including diet, exercise, alcohol and tobacco consumption, birth control use, and others.
As the years go by, we have fewer of these special messengers within our bodies which means that the signals they are transmitting become less effective impacting crucial biological processes.

Hormone Replacement for Women

Why It's Important for Women
In the female body, one of the most prominent components is a hormone known as estrogen. However, as women age, especially after their reproductive years, they often struggle to maintain the right estrogen balance. A decline in estrogen levels can increase the risk of a fracture from osteoporosis, and heart disease—the most common cause of death in women across sthe globe.

Main Benefits for Women
Women who take natural bioidentical hormones often find they can regain some of the many perks of proper estrogen levels. When taking these types of hormones, many women experience a boost in energy levels, mood and libido.

According to the Journal of American Medical Association, post-menopausal women who take estrogen replacement therapy, also known as ERT, also experience increased brain function and better memory retrieval. Taking estrogen hormones cannot only reverse some of the signs of post-menopausal aging but actually help improve overall health and function.

Additional Benefits for Women

Decreasing blood pressure and plaque accumulation in the arteries
METABOLISM
Increasing metabolic rate

DIFFERENT FORMS
For female hormone replacement therapy, NovaVita Wellness Centers offers Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). This treatment offers bioidentical, plant-based testosterone and estrogen placement which occurs every 3-4 months.

For male hormone replacement therapy, NovaVita Wellness Centers offers 2 different forms of treatment. Males can choose between BHRT every 4-5 months or TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) given weekly.
To learn more about each option, please see below.

WHAT IS TRT?

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is a type of hormone replacement therapy designed to restore healthy testosterone levels in someone who suffers from low T. At this point in a man’s body, it lacks endogenous production of a necessary hormone, so it needs to be “replaced” with an exogenous source. TRT is that replacement.

At NovaVita Wellness Centers, exogenous testosterone is injected 1-2 times per week to bring testosterone levels back to a healthy range.
While the majority of males on TRT are over the age of 50, younger men are taking action into their own hands and having their testosterone levels checked with easy, in-house labs at NovaVita.

Although this therapy has greatly increased in the US over the last couple of decades, testosterone was initially synthesized in a lab setting in 1935 and has been used clinically ever since. (2) Testosterone has become one of the top most prescribed medications in the United States over the last 10 years. (1)

TYPES OFFERED

At NovaVita Wellness Centers, we offer 2 different types of testosterone. Our practitioner will review all options
during the consultation and help the client decide which treatment is best for each individual.

Testosterone Cypionate

Testosterone Cypionate is an injectable form of exogenous testosterone. This form is longer acting due to the number of carbon bonds and the time it takes for them to be broken down. It is the most popular form in the United States for treating Low T.

Testosterone Enanthate

Testosterone Enanthate is another form of injectable exogenous testosterone. Due to its chemical formula, it is faster acting than other forms. This form is less available in the United States and is much more popular in Europe and the UK.

3. Dosage Calculator:

Our customized dosing calculator uses a 2-step process to gather patient information regarding lifestyle and behavior, sleep patterns, stress factors, and hormone influence to identify the initial criteria for the patient. We use this information with other important clinical data, medical history, current medications, and more to further identify needs and areas if and where medications may be helpful. An individualized custom dose will be recommended for each patient based on the criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are BHRT Pellets?
Pellets are made up of either estradiol or testosterone. The hormones, estradiol or testosterone, are pressed or fused into very small solid cylinders. These pellets are larger than a grain of rice and smaller than a ‘Tic Tac’. In the United States, pellets are made by a licensed compounding pharmacist and delivered in sterile glass vials.
How do I know if I am a candidate for BHRT?
Some of the symptoms you might be experiencing might include excessive weight gain, low libido or sex drive, mood swings, insomnia or trouble sleeping, depression, and or irritability. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you might be a candidate for BHRT pellet therapy.
Why are pellets optimal for hormone replacement?
Pellets deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones for 3-6 months, depending on the dosage. They avoid the fluctuations, or ups and downs, of hormone levels seen with every other method of delivery. It is the fluctuation in hormones that causes many of the unwanted side effects and symptoms a patient experiences. Pellets do not increase the risk of blood clots like conventional or synthetic hormone replacement therapy. In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be superior for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, restoration of sleep patterns, improved sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance. Even patients who have failed other types of hormone therapy have a very high success rate with pellets. In addition, there is no other method of hormone delivery that is as convenient for the patient as pellets.
Transform is a program created for patients.
What can I expect after the pellet insertion?
After pellets are inserted, patients may notice that they have more energy, sleep better and feel happier. Muscle mass and bone density will increase while fatty tissue decreases. Patients may notice increased strength, coordination and physical performance. They may see an improvement in skin tone and hair texture. Concentration and memory may improve as will overall physical and sexual health.

How soon will I feel the effects of the pellets?
Some patients begin to “feel better” within 24-48 hours while others may take a week or two to notice a difference.Transform is a program created for patients.
How long do the pellets last?
The pellets usually last between 3 and 5 months in women and 5-6 months in men. High levels of stress, physical activity, some medications and lack of sleep may increase the rate at which the pellet absorb and may require that pellets are inserted sooner in some patients.
Do the pellets need to be removed every 3-6 months?
The pellets do not need to be removed. They completely dissolve on their own.
Do men need hormone replacement therapy?
Testosterone levels begin to decline in men beginning in their 30’s. Most men maintain adequate levels of testosterone into their mid-40’s to mid-50’s, some into their late 70’s early 80’s. Men should be tested when they begin to show signs of testosterone deficiency. Even men in their 30’s can be testosterone deficient and show signs of bone loss. Most men need to be tested around 50 years of age. It is never too late to benefit from hormone therapy.
